Various sea sports such as sailing, diving, fishing, canoe, windsurfing, water skiing, jet skiing, and other water activities are available at the crystal Mediterranean waters. Perfect facilities can also be found for marshal art funs like karate, boxing, kick boxing, Thai Boxing and Tai Kwon Do. Other sports such as the ones listed below are offered in Cyprus.
Bowling Bowling centres can be found almost in all areas and they are equipped with the latest technology. Able to cater for hours of endless fun and entertainment, within a comfortable climate controlled areas. All bowling centres include 16, 12 or 8 bowling lanes and they are all equipped with changing room facilities and cafeterias. One of the most popular sports in the world can offer the sense of excitement and achievement to all children playing for fun or organised competitions and tournaments.
Cycling Cyprus is a natural mountain-biking place. Its terrain offers many opportunities for exciting mountain-biking in different tracks, making the island a paradise for the sport’s fans. Due to the excellent weather conditions prevailing on the island, cycling sports can be enjoyed almost throughout the year. The short distances and diversity of routes mean that there are rapid changes of terrain with a variety of different road surfaces from rocky to clay and steep to flat, and different landscapes combining attractive beaches, modern cities, vineyards and old tranquil villages. The Cycle Club (Podilatokinisis) the Cycling Federation’s own club, organises various non racing cycling activities and events where everyone is welcome to participate. Similar activities are organized also by the Limassol Cycling Club. The Cyprus Cycling Federation, a member of the International Cycling Union, organizes contests in Spring, like the famous Afxentia mountain bike two stage International Race and in Autumn various other cycling events, in which everyone is welcome to participate (The C.C.F’s annual activities programme is available from the Federation’s Office at the end of January). The Cyprus Cycling Federation (CCF) organizes local and international races for Road Racing and Mountain biking.
Gymnastics A perfect fusion of athletics and aesthetics, gymnastics ranks among the defining sports of the Olympic Games. Mixing strength and agility with style and grace, the high-flying acrobats have provided many of the most breathtaking Olympic spectacles of the past quarter-century. In Cyprus, most sporting clubs include grounds and facilities for gymnastics.
Horse Riding This popular sport can be enjoyed at Horse Riding Centres, all set up in beautiful surroundings. All centres have professional training facilities, instructors who provide lessons for beginners and advanced riders, and have well designers Working Student Programmes. Horse riding centres can be found in Lefkosia, Lemesos, Pafos, Polis (Pafos District), Larnaka and Ammochostos.
Sailing & Yachting The climatic conditions, the unpolluted sea and the interesting coastline, make Cyprus an interesting and up-coming destination for yachting. Two marinas, 5 ports and numerous bays provide shelter from the prevailing moderate westerlies. Even during the winter months, the European Yachtsmen will be surprised by the temperate sailing conditions - with air and sea temperatures around 17C - competing with early summer back home. Larnaka Marina, an official Port of Entry, has berthing facilities for 450 yachts of all sizes. The marina is situated in the bay of Larnaka and lies 110 nautical miles from Beirut, 182 n.m. from Tel Aviv, 230 n.m. from Port Said and 300 n.m. from Rhodes. St. Raphael Marina in Lemesos is ideal for motor and sailing yacht enthusiasts. It has 227 berths which can accommodate a variety of vessels.
Shooting The Cyprus Shooting Sport Federation is the official national governing body for all Olympic and non Olympic clay pigeon and target shooting in Cyprus. It is affiliated to the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF), to the European Shooting Confederation (ESC), to the Federation Internationale de Tir Aux Armes Sportives de Chasse (FITASC) and to the Commonwealth Shooting Federation (CSF). It is subsidized by the Cyprus Sports Organization, which is the governing body for all sports in Cyprus and is a member of the Cyprus Olympic Committee. In Cyprus one may train: Cyprus Olympic Shooting Range (Lefkosia Shooting Club): The Range is located in the Lakkia (Latsia) area, 8km (5 miles) south-west from the City centre, near the Lefkosia-Lemesos Highway. Lemesos Shooting Club: The Club is located near Pareklissia village, near Elias Hotel country Club, 10km east from the city centre on the way to Lefkosia (Nicosia).
Swimming & Waterpolo Cyprus offers excellent opportunities to athletes who wish to combine swimming or waterpolo training with their holidays. Sporting centres include changing rooms, showers, toilets, gymnastics facilities and weight lifting rooms, kiosks for snacks and refreshments. Excellent services are offered at: Lefkosia: Olympic size heated swimming pool- 50 m length, 21m width, 8 corridors. Swimming pool and diving swimming pool are next to each other, within walking distance from the city centre. Lemesos: Olympic size heated swimming pool- 50 m length, 21m width, 8 corridors. Swimming pool is located by the beach in the centre of Lemesos tourist (hotels) area. Larnaka: Heated swimming pool 1 (Larnaca Nautical Club) - 25 m length, 18 m width, 8 corridors. Swimming pool is located 5 minutes drive from Larnaka city centre. Larnaka: Heated swimming pool 2 (Larnaka community centre) - 25 m length, 12 m width, 5 corridors. Swimming pool is located in the city centre. Paphos: Heated swimming pool - 25 m length, 6 corridors, electronically cleaned. Swimming pool is located northeast Pafos town 10 minutes drive from the costal hotels area.
